The Dominos Fall
By Tom Gilbreath
The global dominos are being stood on end, one next to the other, and laid out in a clear pattern. Each domino carries the potential for a terrible cascade of events leading to disaster after disaster. The most striking thing about the global situation right now, the thing that takes one’s breath away, is that the dominos are laid out in the very pattern predicted by the Bible 2,000 years ago.
People who long for the latest thing, the new insight that makes the world understandable, may be surprised to find such profound answers in so ancient a book. That book sits on more bookshelves and probably on more digital devices than any other published work. It’s there, but dusty from disuse. For many, it is a book their great-grandparents revered and their professors disdained — a book they think humanity has outgrown. But those who open it do not find a musty old crypt. They find a book brimming with life and vibrancy — a book that not only describes our time, but one that offers real answers to our most profound dilemmas.
The Bible shows us a picture of our world as it will appear near the end of the age. One of the shocking things it depicts is the speed with which things will fall apart. In just a few years, a semi-normal place like the one we live in today will disintegrate into a series of catastrophes. Billions will die. It happens quickly because the dominos are being laid out in advance. Critical mass can be achieved by toppling any of several potential lead dominos, and certainly by striking many at once.
The dominos have not fallen yet, but their present placement provides the picture of a world that perfectly fits Bible prophecy for the time shortly before the return of Jesus. Yes, Jesus — the One whose name became a swear word, that Man the world tries daily to remake in its own image. But the Bible presents the real Jesus — Creator of all things. The One who does not change. The One who came to save and will come again to judge, rule, and bring previously unheard-of blessings on the world.
Some are tired of hearing about how Jesus died for their sins. They’re weary of seeing John 3:16 signs at football games. They’re disgusted by His followers’ insistence that salvation can be found in Him alone. Some dismiss Him without thought. Others, without investigation, claim to know more about Him than those who spend their lives studying Him.
In the future, even when the world seems to be coming undone as the dominos fall, most will refuse His gracious offer of salvation. Revelation 9:21 speaks of the human reaction to those times of judgment. “And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.” (“Sorceries” here can refer to magic, drugs, or a combination of the two.)
Amazing that they will continue their rebellion against God even with evidence for the Bible’s veracity all around them. But that’s also true now. We already have overwhelming confirmation of the Bible’s divine inspiration. We have more than enough evidence to know with certainty that God loves us, and that in Jesus, God has given us the way to join Him in heaven for eternity.
1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 in the New Living Translation says, “For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when He returns, we can live with Him forever.”
Go to the original source material. Examine the biblical Jesus. Find real answers. Jesus and the prophets gave us incredible insight into the world we live in and where it’s going. The dominos are ready to fall. We see the pattern. It fits the picture laid out in the Bible. This is no time to procrastinate. If you have not turned your life over to Jesus, do it now. If you’re a half-in, half-out Christian, you shouldn’t procrastinate either. Wholly submit yourself to God. Actively resist the devil as he tries to compromise your effectiveness as a Christian. Walk fully in the power, joy, and love of Jesus. Don’t hold anything in reserve. The time is now.
